Makes you appreciate

Monday, August 24, 2009

After a good but emotional weekend (the hormones were raging out of whack again), I came to work in a relatively good mood ready to tackle the day. One of the first emails was news about a co-worker that died yesterday in a motorcycle accident. I worked with him a few times and chatted with him in the elevator, and I just joked with him last week about a fun office competition we had. It just makes you think and appreciate things more. So please everyone that reads this remember that life is short and problems come and go but to enjoy life and to love those you're around.

My first little guy

Saturday, August 22, 2009

This chubby guy was the first to capture my heart. He came into my life after first meeting at a youth football game in Michigan and has been with me ever since.

When the Hubs and I were first talking about moving in together, he actually asked me, "Do you have to bring that cat?"

"Excuse, me? What? Of course he's coming with me," I replied.

How could he even ask me that? Comet was with me before he came around. Luckily, the kitty is such a cool cat, that he and the Hubs became fast friends and even play a game of chase every once in a while. It's quite funny to watch a rather chubby cat chase a grown man around the house.

Recently, we've had to put Mr. Fatty on a diet. He and mom have been trying to cut back on the treats and eat sensibly for their health. This means that there is not always food in the kitty bowl, which means that Comet has become even more loving in hopes that we will feed him more. We're not falling for that trick, mister. It's for your own good, and we want you to be around for a long, long time.

Today, Comet was relaxing in the sun that was shining in from one of the our front windows. He was so relaxed that he allowed me to take several pictures of him. As you can see he is just a big of ball of orange fur.

Is it a cupcake or a burger?

Many of you have probably seen these cute creations before. They're all over the Internet, but I couldn't pass up a chance to create these yummy treats. We celebrated August birthdays this past week, and since the usual cupcake maker was one of the birthday girls, I took over the baking.

Here are the buns and patties pre-construction.

So what are these? Are they a burger or a dessert?

Hmmm...they look like a burger.

But they look sweet like they are made with lots of sugar.

A platter full were taken to work.

After just two minutes there were only a few left. So they must have been good.

One to go

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

I would like to announce that I am one pound away from one of my major mini-goals. After making much progress, I set a goal of 50 pounds lost by Labor Day. Right now, I'm at 49 gone.

Snot came out of where?

Friday, August 14, 2009

First off...if there are any guys reading, you might want to stop. I will hit return a few times to help you avoid reading anything that might haunt your dreams.

Hopefully that was enough. This is a story straight from the bathroom. It's not potty humor, but I did just come straight from the little room under the stairs with some big news. I've got a snot-like substance that is not coming from my nose. Yah! Some describe it as an eggwhite consistency.

Back in the day, this sort of thing would freak me out, and I'd think I had some sort of infection. Not now. After reading Taking Control of Your Infertility, I know that this is a good sign - a very good sign. There was a bit there the other day, a little more yesterday, but tonight there was a whole bunch. Enough ooze off the toilet paper. Okay, that might have been a little too graphic. Sorry for that.

Actually, I'm not. I'm pretty excited about it. For months now I've been keeping an eye out for just this sort of thing. Each month I searched it out, and this month there was no search party. It was right there. That has to be a good sign, right?

Pity party table for one, please

Friday, August 7, 2009

Okay, it is definitely in the water. People all around me have gotten pregnant, and now they're having showers. I've gotten four invites this week alone, and several came in the mail in previous weeks. Normally, I'm good with showering my friends and their unborn babies with love. I do feel that tinge of envy, but I don't usually get all sad. Today is a little different.

I had a rough week at work where it felt that with every up there was someone to just shove me back down. Thanks for that! So when I went through the mail when I got home and saw another baby shower invite, it was enough to almost put me over the edge. I should be happy for my friends, right? I shouldn't feel sad, and I feel a bit guilty for feeling sad - not a good mix.

Tomorrow I'll be okay, but tonight it's pity party time. I've sent the Hubs out for food, and the pajamas are already on. Now to find a sappy movie on tv and the night is complete.

One day I'm buying

Wednesday, August 5, 2009

I admit it. I might have a problem. I always told myself I could stop anytime, and that it wasn't a big deal. Now I realize that it could be an issue. I am addicted to Etsy. Sometimes I sell, but most the time I buy, buy, buy. I can't help it. There is some great stuff on there. I've bought jewelry, clothes, bags, accesories, prints, pottery, and other various things, but I have a new obsession...baby stuff.

I haven't bought anything for myself yet, but I sure have favorited quite a few.

leptitpapillon: mobiles and wall art perfect for a child's room

AllThingsBelle: knitted goodies like the baby coccoon perfect for taking baby's picture in

roslynscloset: I will definitely be buying this onesie when I get the chance

littlegirlPearl: seriously? Could these little dresses be any more cute?

Those are just a few of the shops, I've got marked as favorites. I'll post more on another day.
