Adventures in sunny Florida

A long lost friend has been found. Actually she was never lost, but I just hadn't seen her in a long time. Angela and I had some great times back in college. She's the type of friend that you can just do absolutely nothing with but still have a great time. Since we live states apart, we lost touch a bit, but a couple months ago, we connected again, and I decided to fly down for a quick visit to the Sunshine State. We fit quite a bit in in the short time I was there including visiting the beach, eating great food, going on a fan boat ride and a Big Wheel Buggy ride in the Everglades, and just hanging out.

Just got puked on

That's right...puke, throw up, upchuck. I had a handful of vomit and some on my pajamas. Neither hubs nor I got sick, it was our little pup, Taider. Sometimes he eats too fast and then gets sick a couple hours later. And how you ask did the nastiness come to be in my hand? Well, I didn't want it to get on the couch.

Poor little Taider was resting comfortably under the blanket beside me, then suddenly started making coughing type noises. I knew what came next, and I knew I didn't have time to set the laptop to the side pick him up and run him to the bathroom or outside. So I just stuck my hand under there.

Once the warm chunks hit my hand I let out a loud, "Eeeewwww, eeeewwww, gross," got up, ran to the bathroom (after gently setting the pup on the floor) and promptly scrubbed out my hand. The hubs then came down to see what was going on, and after I told him what happened, he said, "And you want a kid? They get sick you know."

Nice...very nice.

Relaxing in the shade

Our back yard is so shady, and I've always thought it would be a perfect place to just chill out and relax in a hammock. Unfortunately, our trees are either just a little too close together or too far apart. When we were on vacation at Pawley's Island, the home of Pawley's Island Hammock Shops, we were talking about how a hammock would fit nicely in our back yard. Okay, actually it was me talking about it and not the hubs. He isn't a fan of the outdoors so he couldn't care less. My mom said they haven't used their hammock in years, and they even have a stand for it. Since I am not above getting something for free that is slightly used, we finally picked up the parts last weekend, and I got to putting everything together.


What's the best thing about a hammock? The swinging of course! I know they sell fancy little contraptions that help you swing yourself, but I figured that I was smart enough to figure it out myself. With one quick trip to the hardware store, I installed the self-swinging pulley system. It works like a charm.


Right after I got the hammock up and tried out the self-swinging system, a storm rolled in. I didn't get to enjoy the hammock too long last weekend, and with the call for bad weather this weekend, I might not get much time this weekend. After work though, that hammock is a nice relaxing treat.

More pretty flowers

I've probably mentioned it before, but I have a hard time keeping plants alive. The sun and heat of the summer here just zap them. But this summer I'm trying extra hard to keep them green, and I'm being extra vigilant about watering them everyday. So far so good. Here are a few pics of my plants so far.

Always learn something in school...Sunday School that is

This Sunday was not unlike other Sundays. Our class is filled with other couples our age, and we are in the minority since we don't have kids yet. We just finished up a series on Romans, and this week we watched a video in Rob Bell's NOOMA series, "Trees." In it he plants two trees and discusses how in Genesis there was a tree, and a tree is discussed again in Revelations - the beginning and the end. We live in between these trees but God is forever. He is forever in the past and forever in the future, but for us, what we do with our time in between these trees is what is important. Of course, he sais it way better than that, but I'm just trying to give some background here.

After the video, our class discussed how our lives are just a blip in the entire realm of God, and one day, week, month, year can just be a blip during our lives. When we are enduring something stressful, painful or hurtful, that blip can feel like forever, but it's still a blip. If you look at the big picture that time isn't really that long, but man, it sure does drag on when you're in the middle of it. So I'm hoping this infertility thing is a blip in our lives. The past year and half have gone relatively quickly it feels, but when I think about those two week blocks following the big "O" they seem to drag on forever. I just have to remember that when it finally happens, it will all be worth it. I'll forget about how long we waited and how stressful it was each month and how disappointed I felt each month when our "trying" didn't work out. I'm sure that'll all just melt away.

For some reason I didn't bring up any of this in class. I actually don't say much in our Sunday School, but each week I take something away.

I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant

No, I didn't get rushed to the hospital in labor or have a baby in a bathroom or anything. I am definitely not pregnant. This show though is just hypnotizing. I've actually watched it a few times, and for some reason, I can't change the channel. I just don't get it. How do you not know? Since it's on TLC, it has to be true, but I still just can't believe it.

If you haven't seen the show, it highlights people that have gone into labor and they didn't even know they were pregnant. Some women get rushed to the hospital with horrible cramps, and some, like the last one profiled, gave birth in a bathroom. They also have doctors on the show talking about how it can happen and sometimes there are no symptoms. I guess since I have done research and know way too much about my body and my cycle, I can't even fathom not knowing there was a human being growing in my stomach.

I guess it wouldn't be so bad not knowing. It means you wouldn't have any of the bad symptoms, but it also means you wouldn't have any of the good ones. You wouldn't get to feel the baby move or get to see the heartbeat on the monitor. All those moments you would miss. I guess these people do get the ultimate gift though. They get to bring that precious baby home.

Okay, I really need to turn this show off.
