Long day in the land of the infertile

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The best way to keep your mind off being infertile is to be ridiculously busy. While pulling a 13-hour day at work, I don't think I thought about trying to conceive once, and I definitely don't feel like trying now. Have I mentioned it's been a long day?

Now I'm home, finally. It's sad when you get home from work, eat some fast dinner and then get ready for bed. I know that when we finally do have a child, I won't be working as late. At least I hope I'm not. I'll definitely have to figure out alternatives to staying after hours to meet deadlines.

Right now, I'm sort of okay with the overtime I'm getting though. As part of our "Saving $$$ for FTSP" plan, all of my overtime goes into a savings account to work towards our goal.

Speaking of our plan. I'm still organizing for our yard sale. I didn't know I had that much stuff I can get rid of. Who knew that I had that large a range of clothing sizes in my closet? I think there are at least eight different sizes in there. Granted some of them are in the box labeled "I will fit into this again." I am happy to report that several sizes are being sold because they are much too large for me. Pants that I bought last winter are now so large that it looks like I've had an accident in them. The baggy bootie is not a good look - especially when one is sometimes called flapjack by friends. I'm sure it's a term of endearment.

I also have a plethora of craft supplies, a dehumidifier, a friend's mattress, some furniture and much more. Yes, some of my friend's have graciously donated items for me to sell. I don't know if it's because they are trying to help us reach our goal or because they just need to get rid of stuff. Either way, I'm okay with it.

Well, this is one of those really random posts that I could just go on and on rambling, but I think I will stop. Again, it's been a long day. One note...I'm over halfway through the 30 Posts in 30 Days Challenge. So go me!

Having a Baby Sale

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

No, we are not selling babies, and we're definitely not selling babies at a reduced price. In order to get our baby, we need a little help. Unfortunately, that help doesn't come cheap. So in order to speed along the saving, we're having a garage sale.

See my friend over at Will Work for IVF held one as her and her hubs were saving up for their fertility treatments. She's now pregnant, by the way. I figure it's also a good idea to clean out things we no longer need or use. We'll need the extra room soon anyway, right? Over the next few weeks, I'll be going through my closets and cleaning out the garage. I think between Hubs and I, we can come up with a wide selection of clothing from the past 20 years. Granted, the oldest clothes come from the Hubs, who I might have to talk into selling his shiny Raiders jacket or his sweatshirts from his high school days. You think I'm kidding? I'm not. I swear there is this cardigan sweatshirt thing that is from 1988, and yes, I said a cardigan sweatshirt. Maybe I'll clean out his closet for him ;)

I'll also be getting rid of some of the fabric I've collected over the years that I swore I would turn into something creative as well as my large collection of yarn. Yeah, I thought I would knit all kinds of stuff with that. There'll probably be all kinds of stuff for sale at our Baby Sale including maybe some old movies, a never used dehumidifier, books, and so much more! Another great part is that we'll be holding it right before Christmas - another good marketing point! The date isn't set yet, but our plan is to have everything gathered, organized and priced in the next three weeks. Then we'll watch the weather and pick a weekend that is supposed to be nice. From there it's obtaining a yard sale permit, make signs and get the word out.

Luckily I'm not going into this endeavor alone. My friend Mandy has shown some interest into selling some of her stuff, but it's not to gain money for a baby. She just has stuff to get rid of. Do any of you have things you would like to get out of your house? Any others with sweatshirt cardigans, unused craft supplies, out there? I will gladly take those off your hands and try to peddle them off on the unsuspecting public.
