Finally done with the renovation

Sunday, November 22, 2009

A couple months ago I started a project when the Hubs was out of town. I thought I could finish it in one weekend, but I was a wee bit wrong. It started with a run to Lowe's for some paint and rollers. I was going for the two-toned look with a chair rail in between. After tearing down the ugly border thing that we inherited when we moved in, I got to painting. It took two coats, and that pretty much took up the entire weekend.

Before (Just a few scratches)

Oh but let me back up a little. A couple weekends before that I decided to refinish this piece of furniture that was in our dining room. I primed it and got about halfway done with one coat of paint. Then the Hubs went out of town, and I started the other project of redoing the entire dining room. I'm not really sure what made me start another project, but I think I wanted to prove to the Hubs I could do it. Well, I did part of it at least.

Done Painting

So then the project sat in mid-completion for awhile. The weeks went by and the dust started to gather. Then we decided to finally put up the chair rail. That was pretty interesting as we had to figure out the angles and make the cuts. I was an excellent saw-person though. After getting the chair rail up, the project sat again for a bit. All we had to do was fill in the holes from the nails and the corners and creases. It was just touch up work, but for some reason we were lazy and put it off. All the while my other project of painting the cupboard sat in the garage untouched.

Then one morning, I went out to my car and there was frost on the windows. I decided I should wrap up my projects so we could get the cars back in the fridge. So last weekend, I finished painting the cupboard, and this weekend the Hubs filled all the nail holes and creases. This morning I got up and put the hardware back on, and then I helped Hubs paint the baseboards and chair rails.

Tonight we put the final touches on everything and moved the cupboard back in. I must say, it sure brightens the room up, and I'm proud of us.
